The Story Behind
Laser Biotech International

Changing lives through the power of superpulsed lasers

We didn't just enter the laser therapy market — we set a new standard for it.

Laser Biotech International was built on a simple but powerful belief: that patients deserve better outcomes, and practitioners deserve tools that actually deliver them. That conviction led us to superpulsed Lumix lasers — a category of therapeutic technology that goes deeper, works faster, and performs unlike anything else on the market.

A Legacy of Firsts

The Lumix story in the United States began in 2001, when these groundbreaking superpulsed lasers were introduced under IRB guidelines, bringing a new class of therapeutic energy to American practitioners for the first time. By 2004, Lumix had earned FDA clearance as the first superpulsed laser in the USA, a milestone that signaled not just regulatory approval, but the arrival of a genuinely new era in laser therapy.

Manufactured by Fisioline — a globally recognized leader in medical device innovation and quality — Lumix has never stood still. In 2016, the platform earned another landmark FDA clearance: the first therapeutic laser to combine synchronized superpulsed and multiple continuous wave emissions. More wavelengths. More precision. More healing potential.

Then in 2019, Lumix pushed the boundaries further still, introducing higher pulse powers that produce even greater tissue penetration and saturation. Deeper reach. More profound results. Healing options that simply weren’t possible before.

Wheeled Lumix Laser

The Next Generation: Lumix Q

The latest chapter in Lumix innovation is the Lumix Q, introduced to the United States exclusively by Laser Biotech International. The Lumix Q is the first and most powerful superpulsed therapeutic Nd:YAG laser on the market, representing a breakthrough in what therapeutic laser technology can achieve.

Its breakthrough? Deeper penetration with less thermal accumulation. That means healing energy delivered where it’s needed most; safely, effectively, and without compromise.

Why It Matters

What makes a Lumix laser different comes down to the science of superpulsing. Unlike continuous-wave lasers that saturate tissue with heat, superpulsed technology fires in rapid, high-powered bursts, reaching tissue depths other systems simply can’t match. The result is faster cellular response, more meaningful pain relief, and real, measurable health restoration.

At Laser Biotech International, we’ve made it our mission to bring this technology to practitioners across the United States — backed by the expertise, support, and training to use it with confidence. Every Lumix system we offer is selected for its superior functionality, clinical performance, and lasting value.

Because when the right tool meets the right hands, lives change.

Meet Dr. Nelson Marquina

Founder & Chief Technology Officer

What do you get when you combine an engineer, physician, educator, author, and international speaker? Meet Dr. Nelson Marquina, the founder and CTO of Laser Biotech International and a driving force behind some of the most advanced laser therapy technology available today. His rare combination of medical knowledge, engineering expertise, and hands-on clinical experience is exactly what makes Laser Biotech so effective with Lumix laser technology — and why clinics and practitioners trust us to help them deliver real results for their patients.

A Lifelong Love of Light and Science

Dr. Marquina’s fascination with light started young, growing up in Peru in a family of professors, he wasn’t content just reading about science. He was already running experiments of his own, using microscopes, broken light bulbs, and sunlight, whatever he could get his hands on.

That curiosity never left him. It became the foundation for a career devoted to using science for innovative solutions, and led to his love of biophysics and laser therapy.

Academic and Scientific Background

Dr. Marquina’s academic journey spans a remarkable range of disciplines, and solving real problems in healthcare requires more than one way of thinking:

  • Image processing
  • Robotics engineering
  • Artificial intelligence
  • Human physiology
  • Human biophysics
  • Energetic medicine

It’s a rare combination of curiosity and cross-disciplinary thinking that shows in everything Laser Biotech does.

Where the Science Meets Real Patients

As Director of Research at Logan University, Dr. Marquina led some of the earliest clinical studies on therapeutic lasers and found the results compelling. Study after study showed that laser therapy could meaningfully reduce pain, speed healing, and improve patient outcomes.

That momentum led Dr. Marquina to partner with Fisioline, a respected Italian medical device manufacturer, to bring cutting-edge laser therapy to the U.S. Together, they launched Lumix superpulsed laser therapy in the USA in 2001, earned FDA authorizations in 2004, and continued pushing the technology forward with major advances in 2016 and 2019, making high-quality therapeutic lasers more accessible to clinics and practitioners than ever before.

Building Something Bigger

Dr. Marquina has never been content with the status quo. That drive led him to co-found USA Laser in 1999 alongside a team of engineers and physicians. Then, two decades later, he co-founded Laser Biotech International in 2018 with a clear mission: raise the bar for laser therapy and expand its role in modern medicine.

Today, Laser Biotech is still pushing forward to make sure every clinic we work with has access to the best therapeutic laser technology, training, and support to get the best possible outcomes for patients.

Teaching the World About Laser Therapy

Dr. Marquina is passionate about sharing what he knows. He’s delivered seminars and research presentations on laser phototherapy and biophysics across the globe, including:

  • North America
  • Asia
  • South America

He’s also brought laser biophysics, bioelectromagnetic medicine, and artificial intelligence into university classrooms, and held corporate roles in technology development and management, always with an eye toward moving the field forward.

Research That Speaks for Itself

Over the years, Dr. Marquina also channeled his cross-disciplinary thinking into meaningful contributions to scientific journals and conferences around the world.

To understand the depth of Dr. Marquina’s expertise, look at his publication record. He’s contributed to textbooks and peer-reviewed journals read by healthcare professionals worldwide. Here are a few highlights:

  • Chapter in Book:
    • He is the author of the “Energy Medicine: An Emphasis on Lasers” in “The Scientific Basis of Integrative Health” (2017) Edition, where readers will learn how to integrate therapeutic lasers into healthcare.
    • Contributing Author to “Pain Relief and Healing With Lasers: Dental Protocol for Laser Therapy”: A Japanese publication (2015). Readers will learn how to incorporate laser treatment into their clinical practices, as well as some techniques related to providing dental laser treatments.
  • Research Publications:

Dr. Marquina has also co-authored peer-reviewed research that demonstrates the real-world clinical impact of laser therapy:
